New Media Age letters: The true key to email

I missed Steve Morris's dismissal of email as an IT-driven medium, referred to by Peter Wilson (Letters, NMA 22.05.08). But his rebuttal that content is as important is alarmingly glib.

Technology is irrelevant, either for dissemination or receipt. Content is important inasmuch as you either have something to say or you don't. But segmentation is what makes it all work from a commercial point of view. Without it you're in the realm of broadcast, and surely we moved on from there 14 years ago when we joined the interactive industry.
